RIDING GUIDE / LONG JOURNEYS
Long journeys
A horseback route can last hours, months or years. We start with your project and its requirements, rather than a fixed number of days.

Journeys take many forms
A short trip to test equipment and a long self-sufficient route can both be part of a journey. Saddle design depends on planned stages, terrain, pace, resupply opportunities and the actual loads carried by the horse.
Distribute what the horse carries
Water, food, clothing, camping equipment and saddlebags need careful placement. We assess attachment points, overall stability, weight and its distribution. Depending on the project, packing equipment for another animal may also be part of the preparation. Explore pack saddles ↗
Follow changes along the route
Condition and muscle can change with work, season and journey length. Measurements, photographs and observations document these changes. The tree retains the structure designed for the horse; panels and shims allow adjustments when observations justify them.
Design informed by the field
Terrain, stages and planned loads are assessed with your horse to prepare the saddle.
What we assess together
Your enquiry covers route, terrain, pace, luggage, self-sufficiency, carrying arrangements, horse condition and follow-up. Photographs, conformation measurements and observation in motion complement this information before the configuration is confirmed.

Outdoor training, arena work, terrain experience and gradual preparation of the horse are part of the project. The saddle meets requirements defined by duration, load and terrain.
